Licenses and Permits
Our guests purchase the outfitter sponsored Elk combination license to hunt elk in Montana.
For this license to be issued to you it must be completed along with an outfitter's certification form and a $1500 license fee.
March 17th is the date that you must have your application packet submitted. You must contact us early enough so that we can get an application and certification form to you in time to meet the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks application deadline or apply online.

Note: Due to the great interest in Montana hunting, and the limited number of hunts, we recommend booking as early as possible to get the hunt that you wish. We limit the number of hunters that we book each year to insure better quality hunting for everyone. We fill our hunts in the order in which we receive the deposits. The first to make their deposit will receive their first choice and so on...

Our rates include guide service, all meals once in camp; horses and pack mules; and group equipment. There are additional fees for license and permits, meat processing, shipping, and taxidermy.

Archery Season
Hunt for Elk, Whitetail or Mule Deer and Antelope
August 15th - October 18th 2009

Yellowstone Mountain Guides offers a variety of Montana archery hunting options for Elk, White Tail Deer, Antelope, and Moose.  Most of our trips are between 5 to 10 days and are offered as guided trips or drop camps. We have also partnered with some private ranches to offer you some superb hunting opportunities. Check out our list of hunts and give us a call to schedule your hunting trip today.

The terrain varies from easy to difficult. You can expect great scenery, and the challenge of hunting elk and other game. We recommend, if at all possible, that you arrive a day or two early. This will help you acclimate to the altitude and you can enjoy some sightseeing or hiking. We want you to keep in mind that your physical condition is very important. We want you to have a safe, enjoyable Montana hunt!

Our camp facility includes separate canvas sleep and cook tents. Each tent has a wood stove for heat! You will be sleeping on cots with foam mattress pads. We recommend that you bring warm sleeping gear as it can be cold at this elevation. Hot showers will also be made available upon your request in our heated shower tent.

You will be served breakfast, juice and plenty of cowboy coffee prior to each mornings hunt. A quality sack lunch will be provided each day to prevent wasting time returning to camp for a midday meal.

When you return the fires will be burning and a nice hot meal will be served. Our food is first class - you won't be disappointed!

You are also able to hunt while traveling on your days in and out of camp. All of our hunts are horseback to the base camp and to the hunting areas.

Whether you are an experienced angler or hoping for your first catch, we provide guide services in back country and front country trout streams that will consistently produce big fish. Yellowstone National Park offers premier dry fly-fishing as well as many opportunities for nymphs and streamers. One of the unique aspects of our Yellowstone outfitting experience is our combination of backcountry horseback travel and fly fishing guide service. Yellowstone National Park Back Country Photo Tour
5 nights and 6 days
July 12-17 and July 19-24, 2009

If Yellowstone National Park, horseback riding, superb photography, terrific food, comfortable wilderness camping, Yellowstone’s most spectacular waterfalls, soaking in natural hot springs, and funloving wrangler guides sounds like a great time, then this is the perfect adventure for you. You’ll see and photograph spectacular scenery, colorful meadows carpeted with wildflowers, and thundering waterfalls. You’ll get plenty of in the field photo instruction from John & Barbara Gerlach, great conversations with the group members, and exciting stories (some of them true) from our highly experienced wranglers. We’ll fill our days leisurely riding horses to special places where wonderful photo opportunities abound. Riding horses is a relaxing and quiet way to enjoy the back country in a way that few people ever experience.

Join us in exploring the southwestern corner of Yellowstone National Park, the area officially known as the Bechler Region, but those who have visited this area know why most call it “Cascade Corner.”

Lee Metcalf wilderness Photo Tour
5 nights and 6 days
July 26-31, 2009

The rugged and incredibly scenic Hilgard Basin lies about 10 miles north of Quake Lake and 15 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, Montana. This secluded basin is our primary destination because it is dotted with small lakes and tiny rocky creeks cascading over talus slopes. Although our trip runs in late July, it’s spring in the Hilgard Basin.

If high mountain alpine country, horseback riding, superb photography, terrific food, relaxing wilderness camping, colorful alpine wildflowers, breath-taking mountain peaks reflecting in crystal clear mountain lakes at 9,000 feet, and fun-loving wrangler guides sounds like a great time, then this is the perfect adventure for you. You’ll photograph spectacular landscapes, colorful meadows carpeted with wildflowers, and photogenic brooks cascading over rocky talus slopes. You’ll receive plenty of photo instruction in the field from John and Barbara Gerlach, great conversations with the group members, and exciting stories - some of them true - from our experienced wranglers. We’ll fill our days leisurely riding horses - often above the treeline - to magical places where wonderful photo opportunities abound.
